Nerve welcomes submissions that adhere to the following guidelines. We regret that we are unable to respond to all queries.
FICTION & PERSONAL ESSAYS
Before sending anything, please read our mission statement and acquaint yourself with the kinds of short stories and personal essays we publish. Here is what we do not publish: porn, "erotica," play-by-play sexploits and purple fiction (read: overwrought romances in the airport-novel genre). Nerve aims to be frank about sex, but not necessarily explicit. We prefer fiction and personal essays under 3,000 words, although occasionally we publish Quickies, which are articles that are approximately 600-800 words.
Send fiction submissions in the body of an email (or attached as a Word document)
to will@nerve.com, or mail to Will Doig at the above address. Personal essay submissions should be directed to will@nerve.com or mailed to Will Doig at the same address. Unfortunately, Nerve no longer publishes poetry. All submissions should have a cover letter that indicates your previous publishing history.
DISPATCHES
Please send a detailed proposal and samples of previously published work to will@nerve.com, or to Will Doig at the above address.
SCREENING ROOM (FILM, TV, MUSIC, BOOKS)
Pitches for Screening Room interviews, critical essays and film reviews should be emailed to peter@nerve.com.
PHOTOGRAPHY
If you have work published online, please email the web address (URL) to photo@nerve.com. You may also email a maximum of ten images that total less than 1MB to the same address. If you are in New York City and would like to drop off your portfolio, please contact photo@nerve.com. Submissions of male nudes, work in color and honest depictions of hot coupling encouraged. Headless images of women's bodies discouraged.
thanks!
