The "AD" Movie Is On, With Michael Cera, According To Jeffrey Tambor

According to Jeffrey "George Bluth Sr." Tambor, the Arrested Development movie will happen this year, and it will have Michael Cera in it. "Trust me," added Tambor. Should we? Here, precisely, is what Tambor said:

"If I have to call him up and say, ‘Get on set right now, young man,’ he’ll be there,” the comic said at a recent Upright Citizens Brigade L.A. performance of “Word Girl.” “The movie is going to happen this year, and Michael Cera is on board. Trust me.”

Right. But would Michael Cera even take that call? This kid is being demonized by AD fanatics, but there's math involved here. Michael Cera is now a film star. Better than that, he's a young film star, with lots of buzz and a following of young dudes who want to be him, young girls who love his Paulie Bleekerness, and these kids' parents, who remember him from that great TV show. He's got what they call big box-office crossover appeal right now - and these moments dodn't last forever. To a much lesser degree, he's John "Vinnie Barbarino" Travolta after Grease and Saturday Night Fever - and you gotta know that Travolta wouldn't have done a Welcome Back Kotter movie. Basically, Michael Cera can get paid. And to pass up a lead role to instead do an ensemble piece for a cult TV show (albeit one with a rabid following) is a decision that would probably cost him in the neighborhood of a couple million dollars. Jeffrey Tambor needs the Arrested Development movie; Michael Cera doesn't. It'd be cool if he did it, but people need to understand where this kid is coming from.

Michael Cera has reportedly agreed to play Gilligan in the Gilligan's Island remake - and Gilligan creator Sherwood Schwartz is trying to land Beyonce for the role of Ginger.
