Friday Flashback: Bette Midler Makes Johnny Carson Cry

Although these days, Bette Midler is hanging with 50 Cent and giving Jennifer Aniston man advice (like ya do), there was a time in our young lives when Bette made us tear up on a regular basis. She was the wind beneath our wings. She was CC Bloom, the character in Beaches who had us crying the ugly cry as she said farewell to her cancer-ridden friend. Throughout the ninties, homegirl just kept tugging on our heart strings with that super-toothy grin on her face. Her most memorable moment might have been her Johnny Carson serenade. On Carson's last show, the Divine Miss M sang the perfect tribute to send him off.

Now our time with The Remote Island is coming to an end. And though we're no Johnny, we still want to hear Bette sing her sweet little goodbye.

50 Cent + Bette Midler?

Lately, 50 Cent has been diversifying his personal portfolio. He’s got a highly anticipated reality television program on MTV titled The Power and The Money. He’s working with his G-Unity Foundation giving grants to deserving organizations across New York City. And he’s hanging out with Bette Midler. He and Bette teamed up to create “The Curtis '50 Cent' Jackson Community Garden” in Queens. Their community garden opened on Monday.

First of all, envision 50 Cent gardening. Mmm-hmm, close your eyes and picture it: 50 Cent using an actual hoe, instead of rapping about ho’s.

He [50 Cent] noted, "When Bette calls you don't say 'no.' Not if you want your reputation to stay the way it is."

So, will Midler and 50 Cent work together in the future? "Absolutely!" he said, before sharing a laugh and a hug with the singer.

"He's producing my next record," the Beaches star said with a wink. "I will be rapping. He's writing a song for me right now." (people.com)

Wow. So if you want street cred you go to Bette Midler, and if you need a "Wind Beneath My Wings" remix you go to 50 Cent? Good to know.
