Barack Obama will give his second primetime news conference Tuesday, March 24th, at 8 p.m. And the President may not stop there. According to Slate
Obama is considering doing a series of televised "fireside chats" in
which he briefly talks directly to the American people - just like FDR,
but with pictures. Possibly he will do this while holding Abraham
Lincoln's bible and quoting George Washington. Love Barack, but do you
ever get the feeling he thinks he's playing President?
Aw, we kid.
Actually, talking to us is an excellent idea. This whole economic
catastrophe sort of feels like being beaten while drugged - we're not
sure what's happening, but it hurts.
FDR's first fireside chat, delivered March 12, 1933, was about a banking crisis. Yup, the more things change...
Anyway,
not to take you back to high school History, but we've got the
recording of that fireside chat. Come on, listen. It's pretty cool, in
a Presidential Library kind of way...
