Tina Fey Makes Rachel Dratch Incredibly Nervous

Posted by Olivia Purnell

We have a soft spot in our heart for Rachel Dratch.

She goes to our gym, and we feel an affinity for anyone who hauls their cookies onto the treadmill beside us instead of eating cupcake icing out of the jar while watching Facts of Life reruns (which is what we’d like to be doing instead of jogging).  We always want to strike up a conversation with Rach, but sweaty treadmill talks are never that intellectually stimulating.  Also we kind of like to be left alone at the gym, and we know The Golden Rule, so we’ve never asked Rachel what she’s up to these days.

The paparazzi, on the other hand, are pretty sure that The Golden Rule doesn’t apply to them.  The paps saw Rachel out and about recently, and took the opportunity to ask her about any possible return to SNL

Rachel says, “Once you leave, you can never come back," in a hushed M. Night Shymalan voice, as though Lorne Michaels nurses young comedians to maturity and lovingly sends them out into the world, but subjects them to a level 8 ass-whooping if they try to return to the pack.

One of the paparazzi responds: “What about Tina Fey?”  Rachel breaks into a near hysterical giggle fit, presumably at the comparison between her career and Tina’s crazy psychedelic superstardom.  Or maybe the ladies have some Biggie/2-Pac type beef.  Either way, it actually gets a little uncomfortable for us.

We love you Dratch.  We’re bringing brownies next time we go to the gym.  Nothing soothes nervous laughter and career anxiety like fresh baked chocolaty goodness . . . on a treadmill.

Lindy Parker has worked as a ghostwriter, editor, dance instructor and a purveyor of dreams, one beer at a time. She loves Charles Dickens and Gabriel Garcia Marquez and also, straight-to-video releases with Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen. It's possible she reads more teen fiction than she should. She hails from Los Angeles, her hometown and soul mate, but she lives in Brooklyn, the fling she'll never forget.

Olivia Purnell left Ohio for sunny Los Angeles; then found that she couldn’t ignore New York City’s call, and brought herself to Brooklyn where she has worked with GenArt, BlackBook, the School of American Ballet, and finished an M.A. in Creative Writing from N.Y.U. She loves one-liners with sting and hates the stench of the subway in the summer. That said, she can’t get enough of either.
