Truth be told, we were not fans of Kidnapped when it aired briefly on NBC in 2006. In retrospect, this may mostly be because we thought Jeremy Sisto was a little miscast. (Of course, now that he's been on Law & Order for a while -- where part of his charm is the way he's slightly out of kilter with the rest of the show -- we're wondering if that's just the way he do.)
Anyhow, we're beginning to wonder if we were paying attention to the wrong guy back then.
Flash forward to last week, and all of a sudden we're watching Universal HD and there's Delroy Lindo, from Clockers and Ransom -- yeah, kind of playing the same character as in Ransom -- but with his almost-creepy serenity, he's transifixing as he explains himself to Dana Delany, she of the "kidnapped" son. Why does he do what he does? So other people don't have to, he says, and we totally believed him. Of all the FBI agents we've ever seen on TV -- and that's like billions, right? -- Lindo's Latimer Rose might be the only one who seemed genuinely professional in his worldweariness, like he wanted things done with the least danger and the least drama, so everyone could just go home. Which, if you think about it, is kind of the exact opposite of drama. And maybe that's why we're finding him so riveting.
(Hang on, he doesn't go, like, crazy later on, does he?)
Kidnapped airs Fridays on Universal HD; check local listings for times.
