The weenies at the American Medical Association Alliance – and right away, that sounds like a made-up group name that only the weeniest of weenies could come up with – are up in arms over the depiction of cigarettes in He’s Just Not That Into You. Notice I didn’t say the depiction of smoking. That’s because nobody smokes in the movie. I don’t know this firsthand, not having seen He’s Just Not That Into You – I understand they removed all the car chases and shootouts from the book – but that’s what I read in the New York Times, so it must be true.

So if there’s no smoking in the movie, what is this so-called Association Alliance so upset about?

I’ve been watching a lot of 3D movies of late for another project – if you’re interested in seeing the flying eyeball trick from Friday the 13th Part 3D reprised in digital clarity, don’t miss My Bloody Valentine 3D – but I must admit, I haven’t seen any 3D porn. In fact, I can hardly believe there hasn’t been any 3D porn, as this report claims. “Hong Kong film makers are preparing to leave filmgoers goggle-eyed by releasing the world's first pornographic movie in 3D, a news report said on Sunday.”

“Shooting on the Chinese-language film 3D Sex And Zen, budgeted at 4 million US dollars, is scheduled for April with producers promising some of the most realistic close-up sex scenes ever. ‘Just imagine that you'll be watching it as if you were sitting beside the bed,’ Stephen Shiu Jnr told the Sunday Morning Post.”

Blart rules! Well, he rules the box office, anyway, as Paul Blart: Mall Cop topped the charts over the MLK holiday weekend with a $39 million haul. I just report the stuff, people! I accept no blame! Gran Torino slipped to second place with $26.2 million, for a gran total of $77.2 million. Appropriately enough, third place went to My Bloody Valentine 3D, with $24.2 million, followed closely by Notorious with $24 million.

Brandon Routh has signed up for another comic book adapation, but he can leave his cape at home this time.

January and February are the traditional dumping ground for the movies Hollywood has given up on. They weren’t good enough to release at the end of the year to qualify for awards consideration, and they don’t have the commercial potential to secure a coveted summer weekend.
