Angelina Jolie can't get no satisfaction. Though the actress has a bazillion kids with one of the hottest men in the world, she is apparently ready to make their relationship a little more open. Rumor has it that Jolie told Pitt she wants to take "other lovers." According to reports a "source" says, “Angie has never been a traditional kind of girl, especially when it comes to romance. Even though Brad was attracted to her unconventional behaviour initially, at his core he’s a traditional guy. As open-minded as he tries to be, he certainly wouldn’t be fine with her sleeping with another man and would definitely have resented the suggestion, even if it was a petulant slip of the tongue on her part.”

Of course, we have to ask: if you had to choose between sleeping with Brad Pitt or having your choice of every other man in the world, who would you rather?

When you think of presidential mistresses do you imagine Monica Lewinsky and her blue dress making nightly appearances on Inside Edition? Or maybe you picture Marilyn Monroe baring all for photographer Bruce Stern in The Last Sitting. In fact, save for America’s bittersweet love for Ms. Monroe, presidential girlfriends are rarely presented in a positive light. Until now.

British painter Annie Kevans has captured every presidential mistress—and one mister—on record in her oil-on-paper series All the Presidents’ Girls.
JFK's conquests make up more than a third of the collection, but they share the spotlight with the likes of Jefferson’s slave girl Sally Hemings, Monica Lewinsky and William Rufus DeVane King—who was elected Vice President under Franklin Pierce and was rumored to have been James Buchanan’s undercover lover.

Kevans recently closed a three-day gallery show in New York but the entire series can be viewed online.

Infidelity: Blame It On My Hormones

Okay, not my hormones so much, because I apparently don't have high numbers of the hormone in question (though I wonder if it's available in pill form?). But according to a new study out of the University of Texas, women with high concentrations of oestradiol are more likely to cheat on their partners.

How do you know if you or your lady friend has high levels of oestradiol?

Well, is she hot?

High concentration of the hormone is associated with with big breasts, facial attractiveness and low waist-to-hip ratio.

Like we said, we obviously don't oestradiol coming out of our ears or anything (but we weren't joking when we asked about it in pill form) but women who do are "likelier to flirt, kiss and have a serious affair outside an established relationship" because "men solicit such women."

So, hot people are more likely cheat? Oh, sorry "sexy women" (see below).

Seeing a Tom Jones concert is still on my bucket list, but lets just say I won't be throwing any knickers, especially considering some of the revelations of his interview in the Times Online about his illegitimate son, groupies, and his wife of 51 years.

So what's new with this pussy-hound? For one thing, he and wifey have a don't-ask-or-I-will tell arrangement regarding groupies.

He also finally admitted in this interview that his nearly 20-year-old love child is in fact his son, after not acknowledging him previously or ever meeting him, saying "I was tricked." Come on now, he was tricked? Can old Tom be fooled so easily?

But more troubling was the description of his wife as a sort of agoraphobic Stepford wife, happy just to vaccuum or organize at home while sipping Dom Perignon.

We just love holiday press releases here at Scanner. We're actually starting to believe they're funded by liquor companies. They're either so full of warm and fuzzy bullshit you want to laugh about it over a bottle of wine or they contain some information that will likely scare you so much you spend the entire holiday throwing back Bailey's on the rocks to forget that your life, as you know it, may crumble in front of you (and your entire family) at any given moment.

Our holiday press release du jour comes from Ruth Houston an, "infidelity expert and author" who thinks you should spend Thanksgiving giving thanks for your monogamous mate. But, she adds, even though you think you have a faithful partner, you probably don't, mmmkay?

It is of the utmost importance to be reminded on Turkey Day, that:

• 50% to 70% of men cheat on their mates
• female infidelity has increased 50% in the past 10 years
• In one study, 70% of married women and 54% of married men whose spouses were cheating had no idea their partner was having an affair.
• In another study, 60% of those who admitted to cheating, said their partner did not know about their affair.

But she's quick to remind us that even if you think your mate falls into the faithful category, think again:

"Most people who are married or in a committed relationship automatically assume their partner is faithful. But as the statistics above indicate, only a small percentage of those in relationships can truthfully make that claim."

Yeah, so instead of spending so much on a free-range, organic turkey this year, you should be saving your money for a private investigator. And booze. Lots of booze.

Women Get Away With Affairs Because of Their Expert Lying, Says Woman Who Got Away With An Affair With Future British Prime Minister

This is Edwina Currie, the conservative politician who cheated on her husband with married future British Prime Minister John Major. Edwina wrote a piece for the Daily Mail this week on the latest poll on cheaters and how they get away with it...

So a new survey has come up with the surprise revelation that women are just as likely to be unfaithful as men.
Why didn't anyone realise this earlier?
Simply, it seems, because we women are more wily. While men are likely to strut around bragging about their conquests - indeed, even exaggerating the scale of their extramarital infidelities - women, conversely, are apt to keep mum about theirs.
Two thousand women were questioned in a recent sex and relationship survey. One in six of them admitted to having adulterous sex.
But here's the revelation: while females almost invariably discover the truth when their spouses stray, women are adept at keeping their own infidelities secret.

Currie also points out the already-infamous recent interview given by Dame Eileen Atkins in which the 70-something actress confessed that Colin Farrell had repeatedly propositioned her one night a few years back, in which Atkins said:

'Women are more successful at infidelity than men - they're better liars.'

Interestingly, it was Currie who broke the news of the affair, more than a decade after it ended, in her 2002 autobiography. She later trashed Major for being sexist and racist and disparaged his work as Prime Minister. She also admitted that, after all that time, she still loved him...

Anyway, what do we think about this survey? Are woman better at conducting affairs (and getting away with them) because of their skills as liars?

First Person Singular: This McCain Story's a Bunch of Crap

Hi kids, Scanner Bryan here. I wanted to break out of the collective "we" for a sec because -- speaking entirely for myself -- I'm of the opinion that the McCain story run by the New York Times is pretty much, as the Senator says, "a hit-and-run smear."

If you haven't bothered to read the piece through, I suggest you do. I'll still be here when you're finished. Done? Great. So. Remember that part where they actually say "McCain had an affair"? No? Why would that be? Oh, maybe because it's never actually stated. What do the four authors of the Times piece is actually fit to print? Well, let's see...

Convinced the relationship had become romantic, some of his top advisers intervened...
[T]o his advisers, even the appearance of a close bond with a lobbyist [...] threatened the story of redemption and rectitude that defined his political identity.
[S]ome of the senator’s advisers had grown so concerned that the relationship had become romantic that they took steps to intervene.

It's like reporting the story of a fire from the perspective of unnamed bystanders who were sure they smelled smoke. If it turns out to be false, well, no one broke any rules. And if it turns out to be true, and McCain goes "Mea culpa!," well then huzzah, they shoplifted their way into a big story. (There are also some hints at McCain knowing he acted "inappropriately," but that could mean any number of things -- financial impropriety, ethical lapses, fucking in a corporate jet...)

Now, let's be clear: a story about John McCain's ethical history, which is basically what this piece is, is a perfectly legitimate story to investigate and report. The first time anybody heard the name John McCain (Hanoi Hilton not withstanding), it was because he was wrapped up in the Savings and Loan scandals of the 1980's. How a guy goes from that to the embattled poster boy for campaign reform is a worthy and most likely compelling story.

But does that story require personal innuendo? Would it have been possible to report on McCain's over-close relationship to a lobbyist without dropping all these hints? Categorically, the answer is "Yes." And how do we know? Because Howard Kurtz did it last December. Is it a terribly compelling or juicy read? No. But does it have the same broad strokes as the Times piece? Absolutely.

Now, the Times exposé has apparently been in the works for some time, and Times staff apparently deemed it so worthy of interest that a number of reporters have been involved with it. But I've got a hard time believing that Times Executive Editor Bill Keller or anyone at the paper thought that this story was really ready for prime-time yet. What seems increasingly likely -- and here I respectfully part ways with my fellow blogger Brian Fairbanks -- is that after spending months on the story, the decision was made to publish something -- anything -- before The New Republic published their own exposé on the Times, detailing the infighting by staffers over the apparently-never-proven infidelity angle. In effect, the Times was in danger of being scooped on their own scoop, and so the choices were:

-- kill the story and write off the effort

-- publish the story without innuendo and look like a chump for not including the infidelity stuff when the New Republic article comes out

-- publish the story with everything they could get away with and let the chips fall where they may

Even assuming that they had juicier details that they declined to publish, they still basically went with option C -- which to my mind is the only choice guaranteed to make them look like assholes. It's a Hail Mary pass, relying on a suddenly repentant John McCain to be there to catch the ball.

Now, this is a sex blog, and maybe you're wondering "Why the fuck should I care about this?" Well, for one thing, in a world where right-wingers get busted every month for sexual hypocrisy, why waste our time with innuendo like this? For another: if the standard of proof on infidelity has really been brought so low, then get ready for a shit-ton of accusations about any number of political figures, left and right, starting with Bill Clinton, whose sex life I'm guessing we're all pretty sick of hearing about right now. Finally, though, I just get annoyed whenever anyone is forced to deny something of a sexual nature that no one actually committed to saying. And you should too.

And can I say one other thing? If the Times had just gone with the story of two political advisers working to quell an election-year scandal they weren't actually positive existed, that would have been an awesome story. They could have named the advisers, or not; they could have named the candidate, or not; they could have named the lobbyist, or not. The machinations and speculations of that story would have been worthy enough for print either way. Sadly, that's not the story the Times went with either. Maybe it's the one that'll appear in The New Republic.

(OK, and full disclosure, since some of you must be wondering: I've been donating to both the Clinton and Obama campaigns since the summer -- twice as much to Obama as Clinton.)

UPDATE: The New Republic's piece is up now. Keller comes off as the one demanding revisions and rewrites from his somewhat indignant reporters, one of whom is implied to have quit over the story's many delays -- but in an NPR interview, Keller also just tried to reframe the story as one of McCain's history of impropriety... which leads me to believe he knows they shoplifted the infidelity angle. Man, I so hate to be parroting what seems to be the GOP line on this one -- but I'll be damned if it's not the one that makes the most sense to me for now.

Now, that's a hazard no golfer wants to think about, right? Right?

Dear Nintendo Wii: Happy Birthday, You Old Homewrecker You!

Monday was the Nintendo Wii's first birthday! What did you get yours? We know what Go Nintendo reader "Tony" gave his Wii: a massive guilt trip for ruining his marriage. Seems that "Tony" got back from Iraq to find something he wasn't expecting on his Wii's Mii Channel (a.k.a., the place where your personalized Wii characters live), something that confirmed rumors he'd been hearing about his wife and an unnamed sports figure.

It’s a guy strikingly similar to PBA Bowler *name deleted*. To be sure of this, I went into the Wil Message Board and click on the Calendar option. Through this menu I was able to identify the many nights my wife’s Mii and this ‘other’ Mii Character played Wii Bowling. It became clearly obvious that she couldn’t explain her way out of this.

Here's the best part about all this: somewhere out there, there's a pro bowler who's getting into girls pants with his video game skills. What, polos and the promise of remarkable finger strength weren't cutting it?
