It used to be "become a Bond girl, end up doing softcore Hollywood porn later." Now, it seems getting that in order to get the attentions of 007's producers, you have to do a bunch of nude scenes or topless spreads in order to land the role of one the spy's femme fatales...

Since we're as excited as can be for Quantum of Solace, the followup to Casino Royale, we will find every excuse imaginable to talk about it. Even better when that excuse involves posting a series of nude photos and other career highlights from our second favorite* new Bond babe.

Speaking of these photos to IMDB News, Kurylenko says:

"There are no actresses who haven't appeared naked. These things are not unusual.
"All the magazine pictures are artistic. I didn't do any pornography. It was all done in silhouette. It was advertising stuff.
"It's something I have done but it's not what I enjoy doing. It was part of the job. I haven't been modelling for a few years now. I don't have to. Movies are my passion.
"I always have respect towards people and I do everything with love and respect. There are much graver things in the world to worry about."

New Bond Movie Should Have Stuck With "Bond 22"

All right, if you have been paying attention to this blog, you will have noticed that we have been totally excited about the next Bond film -- in part, because we've been hoping that they would hammer out the kinks they ran into during the first go-round with Daniel Craig, and in part because the ladies they've tapped for roles in the movie have been so. Freaking. Hot.

Then, yesterday, we learn that the new Bond film is gonna be called Quantum of Solace.

Quantum.

Of.

Solace.

And also, we see that they've given new Bond girls Gemma Arterton and Olga Kurylenko some seriously crappy haircuts.

What.

The.

Fuck?

We get it. At least, we think we get the title, anyways. Bond -- after having his heart broken by -- SPOILER!!! --Vesper Lynd in Casino Royale is looking for a modicum -- some might say a "quantum" -- of solace in... what? Bloody Revenge? The ripe buttocks and supple lips of the lovely ladies who've been cast in the flick? OK, fair enough. And yet. It's sort of... how do we say this... the WORST TITLE EVER.

WORST.

EVER.

Crush of the Week: Gemma Arterton, James Bond's Rebound Girl

Last year's Casino Royale was a mixed bag for us. Sure, it was great to see a little life breathed into the moribund, self-parodying Bond franchise. And yeah, the physical, self-inventing/self-hating spin on the role by Daniel Craig was pretty much flawless. But the best action sequences were in the first 15 minutes, and there was too much lovey-dovey stuff for our taste. And to be clear, what we mean by "too much lovey-dovey stuff" is that there were way too many chaste, longing kisses, and not enough getting it on. What is this, Brief Encounter? You got Mr. Hunk of Man Meat and Ms. You Know I'm The Only Thing You Remember About The Dreamers in the same movie and the closest thing we get to a shower scene is them, fully clothed and freaking out? We know, they had to give Bond a failed romance as a reason to be angry at women. Still.

So we are heartened to hear that the new Bond girl is a frightfully adorable young newcomer named Gemma Arterton who might be the perfect antithesis to Eva Green's rather cool portrayal of Vesper Lynd. According to Marie Claire UK, the 22-year-old graduate of RADA was picked out of a pool of 1,500 girls for the 22nd Bond installment because "[s]he has the modern look." Which we guess means she's a freaking cutie, since from the pictures we've seen, she's like a glossy, magical mix of Phoebe Cates and Lily Allen. But that don't mean she's gonna be another sickly sweet naif, a la Bibi Dahl, or anything. Just yesterday, The Guardian called her a "rising star" for a saucy stage turn in Love's Labours Lost and a much ballyhooed movie role as a prep school bad girl who gets involved in a drug heist while wearing a Sally Bowles haircut and a schoolgirl outfit. Fiesty and willing to indulge in fetish play? Vesper was classy and all, but seriously, we'd rather skip the relationship and get straight to the rebound sex, if you please.
