People are Talking About Beth Ditto's Nude Magazine Shoot

Posted by Colleen Kane

Beth Ditto, singer of the Gossip, just became more badass by baring her ass for the cover of LOVE magazine.

It's not the first time-- she's also appeared nude on the cover of NME, who she told women weren't to blame for the size 0 ideal.

"Blame gay men who work in the fashion industry who want these women as dolls. Men don't know what it feels like to be a woman and be expected to look a particular way. The Beckhams are part of the machine; Paris Hilton is part of the machine."

Beth has stripped for On Our Backs as well.  A post about this on Perez Hilton inspired 533 comments so far that we shan't read, presumably many of them pejorative and semi-literate, and 270 on Popeater
Thoughts?

More power to her. I don't know nearly enough about the fashion industry to comment on her statement about gay men but it seems like a little bit of scapegoating.

Yeah because being obese is just as good for your health as anorexia or bulimia.  Only 63% of Americans are overweight and childhood obesity has tripled in the last 20 years.  Hoorah for overindulgence, heart disease, diabetes and strokes.

Contrary to popular belief, you can be a big girl and still be healthy. Although obesity is often a result of poor eating habits and a sedentary lifestyle, in most cases it doesn't automatically predispose you to illness and disease unless you are morbidly obese and your organs are being strained as a result. I don't think that Beth Ditto falls into that category. She is fat but proportionate and seems to lead a relatively healthy and active life. Some people are just bigger than others and we really need to start accepting that. Plus, she's sexy as hell! :)

Um, yeah, being obese is a hell of a lot better for your health than anorexia or bulimia.  Obesity is going to take twenty or thirty years to kill you...anorexia/bulimia can do it in one or two.

I love the picture!!! I design dress sketches and have known a gay designer or two in my life... A size six is to fat for them. I find it degrading to women to tell them they are to big t be fashionable. Raphael painted beautiful larger women. Greek statues we erected in the form of large lovely Goddesses. Since then fashion has turned to torture of chines women and there obsession of small feet. The Golden age of Europe where the waist size was fashionable between 13 and 15 inches. Threw the 80's pop culture where the hair should be the biggest form on a woman. To now where piercings wild hair color and a tattoo is the trend. The female form has always been and always will be a topic to be poked at, but in the end size 36 to size 6 it doesn't matter what size you are will not make you happy. Love and acceptance of who you are is the only true way to be happy. When society stops judging one another and trying to fit everyone in a box. Rather to embrace how we are all unique and different is when we can stop assuming about stress on organs and throwing up so we can fit into that bathing suit by summer is what is making women sick. Cause right now i say it is all the shit you expect of women that make us sick. We only want to be ourselves and accepted for who we are.
