We just thought a worn-down path was called "walking through the grass until the grass dies" or a "short cut" but what you see above is actually called a "desire path." Growing up in the suburbs, we've seen and created far too many of these, but they're kind-of cool. Maybe urban planners should may more attention to pedestrians' desires and preserve some grass.
