Girl Crush of the Day: Dolly Parton

Posted by Emily Farris

We have always loved Dolly Parton. It might be because she seems to not give a fuck what other people think. There are so, so many reasons to love her, but here are just a few...

1) "Islands in the Stream," her duet with Kenny Rogers

2) "Jolene"

3) "Nine to Five"

4) The fact that she takes pride in who she is even though she is fully aware of the fact that it may be perceived as trashy (she has said she modeled her look after the town floozy)

5) The fact that she wants to launch a make-up line for other women who want to take pride in their trashiness

Dolly is my hero! Not only smart, talented, and hilarious but a total role model and trail blazer for us smart chick musicians trying to find success on their own terms. Her look may be wild and trashy-chic but she is all substance. We love you Dolly.

I must add a #6. "Travelin' Thru", the theme for Transamerica. Not every Southern country musician is going to write a pop-country ballad about self-discovery for a film about a transsexual character. AND have it be awesome. AND win an Oscar for it. :-)

I like her whole persona so much that for years I thought her breasts were as genuine as she was.
