If you aren’t hearing impaired, chances are you’ve never considered how those who are enjoy music videos. You have? OK, fine then, you’re more thoughtful than we are. Either way, we just realized there are sign language music videos, and this discovery has devoured a good part of our day. Please, sit back and take a tour of ASL music videos on YouTube.
Beginning with some "New Shit". We have fallen a little bit in love with this man in Marilyn Manson’s “New Shit” ASL video, and we about melted when, before the video, he signed: I encourage us to continually challenge the meaning of “music for all”. Also, you’ve gotta be pretty adorable to get us to sit through five minutes of Marilyn Manson.
This video for the Fort Minor song “Where’d You Go” comes to YouTube courtesy of the Deaf Performing Artists Network. Basically, they’ve remade the video with signing performers and it’s pretty slick. But we won’t spoil it for you, just watch.
Kayne West’s “Good Life” on the TV show Signed by the Box. There’s a little woman in the corner of the screen signing. She is some serious shit.
The woman signing Annie Lennox’s “Into the West” is Lauren. From the description of this video, we learn that she’s not deaf, but inspired by deaf people to sign songs on YouTube…yadda, yadda. Lauren’s got assload of signing videos and some pretty questionable taste in music (Rascal Flatts?? Isn’t being deaf hard enough?). But we like the song and she's, you know, kind of hot.
We have saved the best for last. We did not expect to find future boyfriends twice during this list, but the man in the ASL remake of Nirvana’s “Sliver” has really brought out the badass 14-year-old in us. Also, props to the Grandma who let them use her living room and her toy poodle.
