Heart-Warming Transgender Conception Story of the Day

Posted by Nicole Pasulka

Transgender man Thomas Beatie’s non-trans wife cannot give birth or carry a child, so he is carrying their daughter. So how does it feel to be a pregnant man?

From his first person essay in The Advocate:

Incredible. Despite the fact that my belly is growing with a new life inside me, I am stable and confident being the man that I am. In a technical sense I see myself as my own surrogate, though my gender identity as male is constant. To Nancy, I am her husband carrying our child—I am so lucky to have such a loving, supportive wife. I will be my daughter’s father, and Nancy will be her mother. We will be a family.

How many dads do you know who would have carried their own children if necessary? Dad of the day? Try dad of the year.

Wow. Just. Wow.

I'm praying this isn't fake, and if it's real that they baby's going to be okay, because if it is real it's terribly experimental. There's a big interplay with hormones that's as infinitely as subtle as it is complex that we *still* haven't figured out.

If only more husbands could be so unselfish as to *consider* pregnancy in the relationship...

Yeah, the reason that most men don't get pregnant is out of selfish sexism. Give me a fucking break.
