David Beckham and Friend Protect Their Balls?

We'd like to know what David Beckham and his teammate are doing below the belt. Whatever it is, it's kind-of hot.

 

Are they merely protecting their balls from the ball? Is this normal? They're holding on a little tight, don't you think? We don't watch enough football to know for sure, though.

You certainly don't watch football at all, do you? This is a fairly common sight in 'soccer'(as you Yanks so quaintly insist on calling it), they seem to be forming a defensive line in front of a goal against a penalty kick. If the frame was wider, you'd like ly see the rest of the aquad preparing to join them.

Being a proud owner of a two fine testicles myself, I think I can safely say that clutching the boys tightly like that would offer ZERO protection against an attacking soccer/football ball.  It'd be safer to cross both hands in front of them, with eyes turned upward in prayer. Maybe the players are doing a "good luck" kind of thing? Like, stroking a rabbit's foot?
