But the non-Amazon Kindling? I'm in!

[$61 and up, eBay via Cockeyed.com]

The Amazon Kindling is the clever little brainchild of Cockeyed.com, which teamed up with Evil Mad Scientist to create a (sorta) true-to-life Kindle out of wood. The wireless, wooden e-book may only fit about 150 words, but it's electricity-free, lightweight, and multi-use... it can actually be broken up into firewood.

I suppose you could make your own version of this, given access to a lasercutter. Otherwise, bid away, my book-loving compatriots!

[via Boing Boing]

Related: First Look at Kindle 2, Kindle 2: The Revenge

Kindle 2: The Revenge

While you were sleeping, Amazon went ahead and released another Kindle. In case you don't know, Kindle is a ridiculously popular e-book reader, and the new version is even better:

- Free use of a 3G network to download content directly to your Kindle, anywhere.

- You can read for up to two weeks on a single charge.

- Faster and thinner than the previous version.

Honestly, if you have any interest in reading e-books, and they're nowhere near as bad as you think they are (some might even use the word "good"), this is the time to adopt.

[$359, Amazon]
