You've Got Mail!

Posted by Steph Auteri

I amk obsessive-compulsive about checking for the mail because, dude, what if I've received the latest issue of Time Out NY!? Or a paycheck!? Or my latest shipment from Amazon.com!

I'm starting to develop twitches and eye spasms and whatnot due to my little compulsion to peek out the back door to see if a stack of mail has been deposited yet, so I think this might be worth picking up, right?

It's a wireless chime that alerts you when the mail has been delivered! It utilizes a motion sensor with a wireless transmitter: You stick one end to the inside of your mailbox, and the other somewhere in your house. And voila!

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm wondering if the latest Wired magazine has arrived yet.

My grandfather lived on a farm way out in the sticks. So far out that he got his daily newspaper a day late. Anyway, he had one of those old fashion rural mailboxes that had the little metal red flag which you would flip up to let the mail man know that you had mail for them to pick up. Well my grandfather improved on that idea, and rigged a green flag that was counterbalanced so that when the mail man would open the mail box to deliver mail, the green flag would swing up. That was you could use the binoculars to scope out the box at the end of the very long driveway to see if you had any new mail.
