Nothing says "welcome" like a place to park your booty (and your baggage) as soon as you walk through the door. Which is why I wish I had a foyer. Or a door that did not open directly into the kitchen.
When I stayed at my my friend's Beacon Hill apartment this past weekend, I couldn't help but admire the shabby chic attractiveness and sheer functionality of the bench sitting against the wall, right next to the front door. Which made me start daydreaming about the bench that I could someday buy:
