So first of all, there’s something completely hilarious about a cat running around with a bib on, right? Sure, we can all agree on that. Good. Now, you would think, of course, that the CatBib is for princess-type cats, who need to make sure not to get Fancy Feast on themselves while munching. And you’d be… Exactly wrong!
Turns out, the CatBib was created by a “bird-feedin’, cat-loving” gardener from Oregon to protect birds from cats. It does this in two ways:
1) The Bib sticks out from the cat’s body, so it gently pushes birds and other animals away.
2) The Bib is brightly colored, and since birds respond to color, they’ll fly away easily.
Sadly, the Bib doesn’t prevent a bird from jumping up on top of it, perching right in front of a cat’s mouth, and getting eaten. They’re still working on that.
Now, though I would probably call BS on the claim that if you save one bird, you’ve paid for the CatBib (how, exactly? What kind of money are you spending on wild birds?), it is cheap, and there’s a video from Reuters describing how it works. And we all love videos.
