I kind of totally love this, and sadly, right now, it’s just a concept. As mentioned multiple times on this blog, I love olde timey stuff, and there’s something, in particular, very romantic about wandering around the house holding a candle as your only source of light. This may have to do with me picturing this happening right before a mystery or daring adventure to a magical world full of fairies and fauns unfolds, but it may also be because I like candles. Your choice.
Clearly, designer Christine Birkhoven feels the same way as I do, as she’s designed a portable, rechargeable lamp/candle to bridge the gap between past and future. The lamp charges while resting in its dock, and stays unlit until you pick it up by the handle. It stays lit until you place it back down on the dock, at which point the light slowly fades.
What do you think, Materialistas: think this is cool? Want one to be actually made?
