It's funny, isn't it, how often more expensive things are not nearly as cute or desirably as their more budget friendly look-alikes? Take this lamp, for example, from Pier 1 which on sale for $59.98 from $125. It's modern and clean and simple and would look equally great in a bedroom, a livingroom, or foyer area. It's also better looking and less than a third the price of this very similar lamp:

    Alex Zalben is a writer living in New York City. He's written for McSweeney's, Modern Humorist and PulpSecret.com. As one-fifth of the sketch comedy group Elephant Larry, he has been written up in the New York Times, Chicago Tribune, and pretty much every other major publication.
